There’s mathematical proof somewhere that as soon as you make something to eat that requires two hands, your baby will start screaming. I haven’t proved it yet, but I’m working on it. I can probably also prove a similar theory when it comes to showering and sleeping. If you’re like me, then you’re always looking for ways to make time for yourself throughout the day.
It’s currently 5 am and my 6 week got up at 4 to eat, which means I never went back to bed. She’s still grunting in her crib, and I’m not sure if she’s going to cry or fall asleep, so I’m sitting here waiting to figure out which one she’s going to do. Eating sliced turkey out of the refrigerator, because as soon as I make eggs, she’s going to decide she’d rather scream than sleep.
At least I have hot coffee, right?
These days, life is a little crazy. Two little kids at home and running a business… there’s no time to rest! So I cherish the little moments I have to stop and take care of myself, even if it’s only to enjoy a bite to eat or a cup of coffee.
Meals right now are all about convenience. I stock the refrigerator with lots of things I can grab and eat with one hand while holding an infant. I eat in my car on the go, or when everyone’s asleep (a rare treat). I’m always looking for delicious, healthy snacks that I can enjoy wherever, which is why I was so excited to learn about LÄRABAR’s new mini snack bars.
These little snack bars are still made of the same good stuff as other LÄRABAR like dates and almonds, but they come in fun flavors like peanut butter chocolate chip and cookie dough. Tova has a milk issue that we’re trying to work out right now so I’m not eating any dairy, which eliminates so many of my favorite foods from my diet. I’m so excited to have found a snack I actually like and leaves me statisfied.
So here’s how I make sure I get a few moments of peace throughout the day, even when life it totally hectic and chaotic.
3 Easy Ways to Make Time for Yourself:
- Take a deep breath. Breathing is highly underrated. Sometimes all it takes is a few deep breaths to give me perspective on a stressful situation and help me not to sweat the small stuff. I know it sounds simple, but trust me: when you’re sitting in traffic trying to get from one place to the next in traffic, or navigating the grocery store parking lot, try some cleansing breaths and report back.
- Take a shower, get dressed, put on makeup. No matter how busy or stressful my day, these are non-negotiables. No matter how tired or stressed I am, a hot shower and putting on real clothes helps me reset and recharge and gives me the little boost I need to manage the day. When I’m in pajamas or sweatpants all day, I’m a lot less productive.
- Rest when everyone else is resting. There’s a sweet spot around 2 pm when both girls are napping. Even though I’m a terrible napper, I force myself to get in bed for s few minutes and rest. Even if I don’t actually sleep, zoning out and turning my brain off for a few minutes gives me some added energy for the day.

This is a lovely post to read. My 11 month old has been up since 2:30am and she is napping now (11am Irish time). I just caught some zzz myself and about to go and get my eyebrows done in the salon. You really do need to zone out in the few minutes you get because life is so busy with little ones. I have a 5 and 7 year old as well
I didn’t sleep when my daughter slept until she was 19 months old… now naptime is a family affair. I’m such a better person for it too!
Taking a shower and getting dressed and putting on makeup always makes me feel SO much more ready to take on the day. It makes me feel better about myself and gives me a mental kick in the butt that sometimes I need! Great ideas.
Those look yummy and the perfect size…your daughter is adorable
My little girl is one month old so I can totally relate! Great ideas!
I think my biggest problem is resting when “everyone else is resting” because I tend to become a busy body and need to be moving around doing something. Great advice! xx adaatude.com
