Losing the Baby Weight: The Best Workout Clothes for New Moms

I’m now 8+ months postpartum, and I’m still working on losing the baby weight. Here’s what I’ve learned about my body after having 2 kids: the weight does NOT just fall right off of me with a little breastfeeding and a few walks around the block. Kudos to the women who enjoy that reality (for real, I’m jealous!). You are that rainbow unicorn, a super-special snowflake. I totally thought that would be me, but it’s not. I’ve always been the type of person who likes to stay in shape, sweat it out at the gym, and eat for health. But losing the baby weight isn’t easy for me.

Maybe that’s why the second time around it’s not as big a deal… I knew what to expect. This time, I’m embracing the time I have with my little one while she’s still little, and not stressing as much about fitting back into my pre-pregnancy jeans. In the meantime, while I’m waiting for those jeans to fit, hitting the gym in what little spare time I have, and trying to stick to a healthy diet, I’m excited to embrace the cute workout clothes trend. That’s why I set out to find the best workout clothes for new moms.

Finding the best workout clothes for new moms is no easy task. And if you’re a new mom — or you’ve ever been a mom — then you know that not all workout clothes are equal. As much as I’d love to embrace some of the midriff-baring options that are so in style right now, that’s really not what I’m looking for.

The pants have to be super comfortable, flattering, and obviously cute. I love styles that fit snuggly and don’t ride down while you’re working out. Sometimes I walk with the stroller, and sometimes I even wear the baby in the Ergo while I’m moving, making it almost impossible to pull the pants back up… just one of the lovely #newmomprobs.

And after trying Terez pants, I think I’ve found the holy grail. You guys… HOW CUTE are these pants?! Confetti pants for me, and they even make pants and tops for littles, which Naomi was so excited about. The waffle pants are in heavy rotation in our house right now, and I often have to hide them from her or she’d probably wear them every day.

When I first got ahold of these pants, I noticed they were very lightweight and breathable, which is great. But it doesn’t exactly bode well for helping you feel contained. Sometimes thicker materials are better for that. But then I tried them on.

They were PERFECT. Better than perfect. They fit exactly how I like, and I swear to you, they didn’t move an inch around the waist. Not while I was throwing my two year old around, and not while I was Soul Cycling later that day. I don’t think I had to pull them up all day.

I couldn’t believe it!

And you know what I liked best about them? They made me FEEL really good. The confetti pattern was so cute, and the material was so soft. Paired with the adorable Terez hoodie — also so soft and lightweight — it was perfect for the changing season. It’ll be perfect for layering with a puffer vest when the temps drop even more.

I highly recommend Terez for both you and for your little one, and I’m excited to see which patterns and styles you choose.

Is looking cute while you’re losing the baby weight matter to you? Is it easy for you, or do you have to work a little harder like me?

  1. Esther, you look AMAZING – I can’t wait to lose the baby weight plus some after January, and I’m pretty sure I need your whole outfit to get me started. You both look so adorable and sporty.

  2. Love those leggings, definitely hard to get in gym time after having kids, but I’ve more intentional with my health than I was before kids!

  3. Thanks for sharing this post! First off, you look awesome!! Second of all, I’m a first time momma to be, and I’m a little scared about losing all of the weight come March. Great post!

  4. omgosh yes! I don’t lose baby weight quickly either. My body just LIKES to hold on to weight, and it is what it is. Your pants are SO cute though! I’ll have to try them because so far, Fabletics are the only workout pants Ive really loved, but I’m not into the who subscription thing. I’m due with number 3 in 3 weeks and cant wait to get back to working out!

  5. Thanks for suggesting these! Hoping new clothes will motivate me to get to the gym to lose my baby weight.
