How to Make Marshmallow Pops

You may remember that I recently made unicorn bark with Naomi. It turned out to be such a fun and delicious project, we decided to make something equally as pretty and delicious: marshmallow pops! I’ve seen these little beauties on Pinterest, and knew I had to make them someday. I am such a sucker for anything marshmallow, and as it turns out, Naomi is too. It should be noted that I made Naomi change our of her favorite Frozen shirt so it wouldn’t get chocolate all over it, and she insisted on changing into a custom cuteheads dress. She wasn’t too happy when I asked her to wear something else, so I just let her do it. Did it get messy? Yes. That’s what dry cleaning is for, right? How to Make Marshmallow Pops. It really couldn’t be easier! All you need is:

  1. Large marshmallows
  2. Cute, colorful straws
  3. Melting chocolate
  4. Sprinkles

I used the leftover melting chocolate we had from the unicorn bark to make these. So really, we killed two birds with one stone… make something pretty and empty the pantry. We’re already off to a good start!

Naomi wanted to make the entire bag of marshmallows. She was having so much fun putting the marshmallows on the straws, and she was doing such a good job of it too. Sometimes she really amazes me, with her hand-eye coordination and her love of helping. I know that if I ever want her to do anything, one of the ways I can convince her is to tell her she’s helping me. It’s the sweetest thing.

You’ll want to keep the marshmallows marshmallow-side up instead of lying them on wax paper because the chocolate will drip to the bottom and dry funny. We just inserted the dipped marshmallows into a cup to let them dry.

Put the melting chocolates into individual bowls by color. Pop them into the microwave for about 30 seconds, stir, then heat for an additional 30. The bowls and the chocolate will be hot, so be careful with them around your kids. I didn’t let Naomi touch them, and waited until the white chocolate had cooled before letting her dip.

Then simply dip in chocolate, wipe a bit of the excess from the sides, and dip into your favorite colored sprinkles. Voila! It’s that easy. Once you’ve decorated all of your marshmallow pops, put them in the refrigerator to harden.

Then comes the most important part… eat them!

With Summer around the corner and 1000 degree temps on the horizon, I’m so glad we’re coming up with lots of fun, indoor activities so we don’t melt. We’re loving these marshmallow pops and can’t wait to try them again with different colors.

What fun and easy food projects have you done with your kids? We’d love to try them!
