It was a rainy day in November, about a week before her actual birthday, that we celebrated Naomi turning two with an awesome unicorn party. I’ve seen tons of rainbow unicorn parties, but I came across one a few months ago that featured some non-traditional colors, and I knew I had to do it. We went with the black, white, gold, pink and green color scheme, which was really fun to bring to life. My friend Meredith from Cake and Confetti created an incredible balloon wall (similar to the one she made for the cuteheads 3rd birthday photoshoot!) and used it as a photo wall, where the kids could ride on our unicorn and snap a cute photo.

I knew for this party I was going to design a special custom cuteheads dress for her. I found the most amazing black and white unicorn fabric and created a dress in our signature flutter sleeve silhouette, then added hot pink pom pom trim. She was so comfortable, and so cute. I loved her outfit that day!

My brothers, both musically gifted, played the guitar and sang for the kids. They may or may not have had a choice in the matter, and the kids were completely mesmerized. They sang some kid faves, like Wheels on the Bus, and even threw in some Outkast for the adults. The rest of the party, the kids played with Play Doh, colored and made sticker art.

I don’t know why exactly, but this unicorn party was 100x less stressful than her first birthday party. Maybe it was because it wasn’t at my house, maybe it was because we had a lot less people. Or maybe it’s because 2 years can change you a lot, and you finally realize that lots of things aren’t as important as you thought, and the most important thing about planning a kid’s party is that everyone has fun and the birthday girl is happy. As you can see from the pic below, Naomi has never been happier. Give her a unicorn hat and a unicorn cookie, and she’s good to go.

Until next year…
