On Naomi: cuteheads top // Gap jeans // Mini Melissa mary janes
When I first visited Sugar & Cloth‘s beautiful studio and saw her neon “Stay Gold” signage in her studio, I was totally mesmerized. It had never occurred to me before to use neon INSIDE like that, but she totally pulls it off tastefully and coolly, as she does with pretty much everything. And that quote… if you read and loved The Outsiders as a kid (or even now), you know why it’s that much more awesome. You know the phenomenon of meeting someone you should’ve met years ago, and then all of a sudden they’re EVERYWHERE? That’s neon for me. After her studio visit, cool neon for the home started popping up everywhere: in my Pinterest feed, on Instagram, and even in my good friends’ homes. The concept has really grown on me since then, and I’m now thinking of 20 spots in my own home where I obviously need a cool, quirky neon sign.
I’ve been pinning lots of cool options myself, but I’ve rounded up a bunch here so you can get a sense of what I’m talking about. I know it’s not for everyone, but there’s something really fresh and modern about it, not to mention eclectic, which is most definitely my decorating style. A bright neon sign in the middle of your living room is certainly not going to jive with everyone’s style enough to actually pull the trigger, but I think we can all appreciate the pretty.
One thing all of these signs have in common is a short, succinct, and I’m sure meaningful message. I love the idea of hiding an inside joke between you and your husband, or using a favorite one-word quote from a favorite movie in your signage. A good neon fabricator can use any font you like, and even your own handwriting, to make it unique.
Would you ever use neon in your home decorating?
How fun! Right after my husband and I got married, we lived in a basement apartment attached to my Nana’s house. Her house was classic 50’s (my grampy built it back then) and the basement had a bar. We had neon signs down there, and I absolutely loved it! I haven’t thought about it in our current house, but I definitely think it would be fun – and I have a ton of blank wall space.
You absolutely should! That’s so cool, vintage neon is awesome!
I’m a sucker for a neon sign/light. We have a neon clock that I adore. They’re just the right mix of funky and fun.
Agree 100%! I love a little bit of funkiness mixed with clean, modern decor.
I love these!! I totally want one for my room. So fun 🙂
Um. Talk about SUPER COOL. I want one right now. putting these on my Christmas list
Right?! Same here! I love the look.
Okay, I am OBSESSED with the Stay Gold sign! So adorable!
Me too! It’s so awesome!
I love the Stay Gold one since I’m a fan of the poem and The Outsiders! I’ve been trying to read what the neon signs that are in Lady Gaga’s bedroom in American Horror Story – Hotel this season, but can’t see what they say.
Google it!!
The second sign is my favourite there is something so effortlessly cool about neon lights they are funky!
I don’t see neon being a big player in the majority of our Victorian home, lol, but I could see discreet use in maybe one of our offices. If you want the look but on a smaller scale, Electroluminescent wire can be found in lots of colors and could be made into your own saying without the expense of neon.
Haha no probably not… But that’s a great tip! I did look into buying one and they’re prettyyy pricy.
I absolutely adore neon signs but had never thought about incorporating them into my home. I have a feeling that’s gonna change soon! They add such a cool unique touch.
I agree! I’m glad you like them too, they seem to be everywhere!
Oh my, it’s a little bit crazy for me. I would feel like I’m living in a circus. But I love your enthusiasm!
Haha to each their own for sure 🙂
These are really neat and the sayings are so fun. They would definitely provide a great modern take on any room.
well, those are super fun. My home is pretty conservative – so these wouldn’t blend – but my kids would sure love them
What a cool idea. It really adds a pop and a definite conversation piece.
These are so fun! I would love to have one in my home that says “You are my sunshine!”.
Oh my word! I kind of love them. I didn’t know neon signs could be so chic!
I’m loving these neon signs! The images you shared look so great and give a great idea of how you could make this style work in a home. I’m pretty much convinced I need one now.
I totally love it, it will make my house look incredible 🙂
This is so cute! Love the ‘love me’ sign.
I NEED one of these in my house – how cool! It’s something you don’t see often, so it could really bring a room together!
These are so cool! They’re a little too modern for my home but I love seeing them elsewhere!
Oh my, what such fab decor!!!
While I don’t see them working in our Alaskan log home, I love the idea of a simple saying in a neon sign. Maybe I’ll consider one for our ‘rec’ room once we get it set up.
Love all these cute neon signs. I don’t know if I would ever have one in the main part of the house, but I could definitely see them in a kids’ room or basement game room. Cute sayings and unique too. That’s the fun part of decorating, finding things that are unexpected!
I totally love this! My son would love this in his room.
I am in love with neon signs! I have quite a few neon bar signs in our basement & LOVE them!
I love these. I keep seeing different bloggers posting pics, but I have yet to spot one anywhere. So cool.
I love them all. Modern design is my specialty, so the first and second photo are super cute.
Oh my gosh, I love them all! I dont think Id use them in my house because my kids would end up destroying something like that but I do love them!
These are awesome. I would hang one inside my house! That is for sure. I love the style it adds to the rooms! Gorgeous! LifeAsLex
I have always wanted a neon sign in my house. I just love that first one!
Love the neon sign idea! Came across your post from the share thread of FFB. Thanks for the inspiration! Definitely pinning this post for reference. I’m in the plans of renovating my bedroom & office so this comes in handy! Thank you Esther!
