13 Kids Totally Crushing It in the OOTD Department

I was packing for our family trip to Wyoming, making lists, folding and refolding, and it dawned on me that I was much more concerned about what my kids would be wearing than my own wardrobe. My suitcase was filled with sweatpants and basic t-shirts. Their suitcases were full of colorful and fun clothing from my favorite shops.

Being a kids clothing designer myself, I realized a long time ago that a lot of moms care about what their kids wear, and put a lot of thought into their outfits. A survey from 2012 even showed that 94% of women spend more on their kids clothes than their own clothes. Not surprising… I know I do it. And I have no shame about it either. I love finding adorable outfits for my kids, especially now that there are two of them.

Clothing is an expression of our true selves, an extension of who we are. So why shouldn’t our kids get to experience the fun of it too? I’ve rounded up some of my favorite kids outfits below, how these moms styled these adorable looks, and even included where you can shop them yourself.

1. Sweet simplicity. There’s nothing better on a little girl that a flutter sleeve dress and a dainty bow. This outfit was made for barefoot twirling. // Dress: cuteheads Bow: Free Babes // Photo cred: Kozy & Co

2. Rad slouchy rompers. Gone are the days of boring one-piece outfits for babies. Slouchy rompers are great for little ones because they really are no-fuss, and don’t require a lot of pulling and tugging to get on. // Romper: Finn and Emma // Photo cred: Jewelry & Jeans

3. Nerdy cool. I love the pairing of this fun floral romper and dark-rimmed glasses. She looks so cool. I’d totally wear this outfit in my size. // Romper: Bailey’s Blossoms, Glasses: Jonas Paul Eyewear, Shoes: Ross // Photo cred: Everyday with Bay

kids totally crushing it in the ootd department kids outfit ideas: bright colors colorblocking

4. Colorblocking. If anyone should be colorblocking, it’s little kids. I love the vibrant blue slouchy romper with the bright red Converse. The ice cream sandwich doesn’t look half bad either. // Romper: June & January, Shoes: Converse // Photo cred: Tuesdays with Jacob

kids totally crushing it in the ootd department kids outfit ideas: bubble rompers

5. Bubble rompers aren’t just for babies. Want your little one to look so chic on Instagram this season? Get her a bubble romper like these. These are great for multiple reasons. First, cuteness. Second, they’re super comfortable. And third, they’re so easy to take on and off, especially if your little one is potty training. // Rompers: Little Adi + Co, Bows: Rain and Honey, Moccs: Freshly Picked // Photo cred: The Garcia Diaries

kids totally crushing it in the ootd department kids outfit ideas: cute and quirky

6. Totally cute, totally quirky. I love the mixed patterns here, topped with this fun bunny hat. It’s the exact kind of fun and funky outfit that a little one as cute as this can and should be wearing. // Top and bloomers: Vivi’s Jewels, Hat: Hide and Cotton, Shoes: Mon Petit Shoes // Photo cred: Sandy a la Mode

kids totally crushing it in the ootd department kids outfit ideas: monochrome

7. Monochrome goodness. Around here, we’re all about color, but I admit, I LOVE monochrome outfits on little ones. These graphic print leggings and graphic raglan tee make for the cutest combo. // Tee: Jacob Grace Designs, Leggings: Hazelberry & Co. // Photo cred: All of Life’s Little Adventures

kids totally crushing it in the ootd department kids outfit ideas: stripes

8. Say yes to stripes. I don’t know about you, but i have about 10 different striped tees, and my little ones wear stripes too. Stripes are great year ’round, and they’re great for hiding those apple sauce spills! // Dress: Shop the Skinny. Bow: Free Babes // Photo cred: Honey & Betts

9. Peplum and dinos and sunnies… oh my! Love these little ootd’s, don’t you? Both kids have a fun, unique style all their own. They’re both very kid-friendly but still stylish. // Dino top: Little and Mighty, Girl’s headband, top and bloomers: Pine and Honey Handmade, Dolls: April Moffatt // Photo cred: The Do It All Mama

10. Bold graphic prints. If you live under a rock, then you might not know that donuts and macarons and all things delicious are all the rage on social media. Cute, bold prints like this donut print are perfect for a sweet little twirly dress like this one. // Dress: Little Bow and Arrow, Bow: Lalapop Shop // Photo cred: The Cuteness

bloomers peony floral cotton bloomer green pom poms

11. Bloomers ARE pants. As the mom of two girls, I can tell you that a pair of cute bloomers go a long, long way. I love how comfortable they are — great for hot Summers — and how easy they are to take on and off for all of those pesky diaper changes. // Bloomers: cuteheads, Headband: Fancy Free Finery, Blanket: Little Unicorn // Photo cred: cuteheads

12. Big, bold patterns. I love polka dots, especially big ones like these. And I love that the floor coordinates. // Top: Vivie and Ash, Headwrap: Baby Bling Bows // Photo cred: Life with Henry and Evie

13. Fringe! Fringe is soooo Summer, you guys. You can’t go wrong with a cute fringe dress like this. Especially when it talks about donuts. // Dresses: Moots Clothing // Photo cred: Life of a Minister Mom
