This past week I did the unthinkable: I went shopping for postpartum bathing suits. If you follow me on Snapchat, then you saw a few of the items I tried on. I figured it was going to be about as much fun as a root canal, but I was NOT prepared for the reality of wearing a bathing suit 11 weeks after having a baby. I think the c-section has a lot to do with how I’m feeling, and my doctor tells me the healing takes a lot longer when you’ve had one. She wasn’t kidding. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry after my day at the bathing suit store, and needless to say, I walked out empty-handed. I thought surely there had to be some postpartum bathing suits that weren’t totally terrible, right?
I have joked with my friend Megan that we are opting out of bathing suit season this year, and embracing our cupcake bods, and I fully plan to do that. But I love to swim with my little ones and I already have Naomi signed up for swim lessons, during which I have to get in the pool, so there’s no escaping bathing suit season. I knew I had to find some postpartum bathing suits that didn’t suck. And fast.
Obviously postpartum bodies come in all varieties, but if you’re looking for a suit that makes you feel beautiful and comfortable after having a baby, here are 10 great options.
The 10 Best Postpartum Bathing Suits
- TRINA TURK ‘ST. TROPEZ’ HIGH LEG ONE-PIECE SWIMSUIT – You might think wearing patterns would go against trying to hide trouble areas, but in fact, patterns can help camouflage and distract from trouble areas. I love the pattern on this one by Trina Turk.
-
SOLID AND STRIPED THE ANNE-MARIE STRIPED SWIMSUIT – Vertical stripes are always flattering and lengthening. Horizontal stripes, not so much.
-
MARA HOFFMAN REVERSIBLE LACE UP SIDE ONE PIECE – Another pretty print suit from Mara Hoffman. I like the thin straps on this one.
-
DUSKII SICILY NEOPRENE SWIMSUIT – I love the color on this one, and the zipper makes breastfeeding easy.
- KATE SPADE NEW YORK JACQUARD POLKA-DOT SCALLOPED ONE-PIECE SWIMSUIT – You can never go wrong with black. And the halter neckline is flattering and elongating. I love the scallops along the neckline too, so it’s not just a boring black bathing suit.
-
TORY SPORT WOMEN’S COLORBLOCKED ONE-PIECE SWIMSUIT-MULTI – The colorblocking along the sides creates a slimming illusion, and I like that this suit has a lot of structure. A suit with good boning and structure will help hold you in.
- LISA MARIE FERNANDEZ WOMEN’S ARDEN ONE-PIECE SWIMSUIT-MULTI – Score 2 points for a distracting and cute ruffle and for the color. Again, you can’t go wrong with black.
-
NEXT INNER GLOW ZIP-FRONT ONE-PIECE SWIMSUIT – If you’re looking for a cute option with sleeves, this one’s a winner.
-
SEAFOLLY KASBAH HIGH NECK SWIMSUIT – I love the colors, the neckline, and the cutouts on the side for their slimming effect. It’s also on sale!
-
SPANX RUFFLED & STRIPED SWIM DRESS – Did you know Spanx makes bathing suits? Well they do, and they’re AWESOME. I have one, and it definitely does the job. It’s comfortable and has a lot of structure. Like the shapewear, it holds you in really well.
I love #9! And I’m right there with you on the postpartum body after C-section. Don’t worry momma, we’ll get there 😉
Yes we will! At my 6 week postpartum checkup, my dr PROMISED me I would. hahaha… I’m clinging to that promise!
Great round up, Esther! I’m working on a similar post on my quest to feel confident in my post baby body this summer – even though is has been 15 months, my body is not the same at all.
This is so timely considering that I’m due on Friday!! I love #5!! Black for the belly and a halter to highlight the shoulders. The scallop detail is cute too!!
Super cute choices! I have a couple of the ‘bathing beauty’ swimsuits from Modcloth and LOVE them for keeping that postpartum body in check. My son is 4 now and they are still great for chasing a kid around on the beach. =)
Yes that’s another thing they need to be… Easy to move around in! Can’t be chasing kids in string bikinis 😂
I’ll take #1, 3, and 9 please! This is PERFECT. I’m due with my second in August and live near the beach so swimsuits are required year round!
Very cute styles! I’m having the belly issue more and more as I approach the big 50. It’s amazing how the right design can cover up the flaws and highlight the curves.
I LOVE all of these picks! #9 is definitely my favorite – the pattern and colors are perfect for Spring/Summer 🙂

I have a similar Trina Turk one piece I got for my postpartum body and LOVED it! I still wear it regardless if I’m carrying baby weight or not! 🙂
All of these are really cute and flattering. Hard to choose.
Such beautiful suits!! I’m so obsessed with #7!!!
These are precious even if you didn’t just have a baby! I will be sharing this with my friend who actually just had hers and we have a pool party for the kids coming up. I find sometimes that a beautiful one-piece is so much more flattering and sexy than a bikini.
#7 is adorable! I love the ruffles!
Oooh! Colours! I especially like number nine! Number one’s cute too. 🙂
Christie’s Take on Life. x
The ones with a zipper are brilliant for breast feeding!
I may not be a mom, but I’d definitely rock that Kate Spade suit!
I read this at the right time! I’m shopping for a swim suit this week. My boys are 2 and 3 but I still have the “mom tummy.” I instantly fell in love with #5 and then was pleased to see it was Kate Spade. Perfect!
I love number 7! It is so cute and feminine! Not to mention chic!
I love love love all of your picks but especially that Trina Turk one!! Heart eyes!
