What Is Milk Punch?
With New Year’s Eve only days away, surely you’re making plans (or making anti-plans to fall asleep on the couch before midnight). In any case, you may want a cocktail to sip on as you enjoy a wild night or a low-key time at home, and that’s where dairy-free milk punch comes in.
You may be asking yourself why such a drink even exists, and why a drink called a “punch” has no fruit of any kind in it. I can assure you that this cocktail, while not exactly traditional, is a New Year’s Eve staple, and will have you excited to ring in the new year. It couldn’t be easier to make and it’s almost fool-proof.
Why Dairy-Free Milk Punch?
Full disclosure: I did not try this drink. I’m 33 weeks pregnant, and this recipe calls for 90 proof bourbon. While I do enjoy the occasional sip of wine or champagne. hard liquor is not on the menu right now. Thank goodness I had my trusty husband to do the taste testing for me.
It was fitting that he try this dairy-free milk punch, to be honest; he’s the one who introduced me to the incredible, cold-pressed almond milk I used in this recipe. Malk Organics is actually a Houston-based company that makes not only almond milk, but CHOCOLATE almond milk that has only 7g of sugar per serving, cashew milk and pecan milk. Being lactose intolerant, I don’t do much dairy, ans especially not regular milk. But this stuff is LEGIT. It is awesome. My daughter drank almost an entire bottle of chocolate milk, and because it’s so low in sugar and packed with so many awesome ingredients, I didn’t even feel bad about it.
In any case, he gave this recipe two enthusiastic thumbs up.
Dairy-Free Milk Punch Recipe
I used Malk Organics Vanilla Almond Milk, so I didn’t need much vanilla at all, but if you’re using plan, you’ll need about a teaspoon for this recipe. In keeping with the theme, I also used a good Texas bourbon called 1835. It came highly recommended from the trusty ladies at Spec’s, a specialty store here in Houston. She also told me it makes great apple cider (pro tip, you’re welcome).
The stir sticks are from one of my favorite online stores, Manor, owned by my good friend Beth. She gave me these a couple of weeks ago, and I knew they were going to make it into a cocktail recipe, even if I couldn’t enjoy it myself.
