After talking to many people about this, including my friend Candace of Luxe with Kids, last week, it has become abundantly clear: we have thousands of pics of our kids, and we’re in almost none of them. I for one find it difficult to get camera-ready every day; I’m not necessarily in sweatpants, but I definitely don’t want my picture taken. It’s also due to laziness; I could easily as a stranger to snap a pic for me, but no. I just snap a quick pic of my kid and move along.
Then there’s this fact: I have very few pictures of me with my mom. That’s due to a number of factors too. One, and this is the most important factor, is that she passed away when I was 18. So we obviously had no opportunities to take pictures together after that time. I also went through my awkward teenage/extremely stubborn years around the time she was going through chemo, and I don’t think either one of us wanted to be in many pictures. I only mention this because it makes me sad, and I wish there were more.
That’s why I was thrilled when top Houston photographer Adam Nyholt, who also shot my wedding, approached me to collaborate with him on an incredible contest: giving one lucky mom the gift of stepping in front of the camera WITH her kids for a change. The winner will receive the shoot as well as a printed 11×17″ canvas, a prize valued at $750.
Entering is fun and easy! Follow these steps:
1. Like cuteheads and Adam Nyholt, Photographer on Facebook
2. Upload a picture of you and your kiddos, or of a mom you love and her kids, to Adam’s Facebook page (uploading Monday, 3/30 and ends Sunday, 4/5). Feel free to get creative with it!
3. From those uploaded, Adam will review for cuteness and creativity and select 10 finalists. The finalists will be uploaded to a gallery on 4/6.
4. Vote, vote, vote! You will vote on your favorite picture to win! Voting lasts one week and ends 4/13.
