Mamas + Makers Market 2016 Recap

Man, WHAT A DAY. After months and months of planning, Mamas + Makers Market kind of came and went in a blur, as these types of things tend to do. I wanted to give myself a few days to think about how it all went before writing my recap, but the thing you should know is that is was INCREDIBLE. I mean, far, far exceeded my expectations. I have gotten incredibly positive feedback — and some constructive criticism — from everyone who came, as well as the vendors, which makes me feel so good.

My little Naomi got her face painted with this gorgeous butterfly from Face Painting by Stormy, and she had herself a quesadilla for lunch. I’d say she had a gooood time.

I love that so many people came out to support small business and shop local. Our city is full of incredible talent and so many awesome people who are out there hustling every day, and this market was proof of that.

Of course, while I had the market to run, I was also running my own little pop-up shop. Cuteheads had an incredible day! I met so many new customers and saw so many familiar faces. I loved talking to everyone about how the heard about the market, and it made me feel good that so many people said different things. We promoted it everywhere, and spent the bulk of the weeks leading up to it on the marketing of it, so I’m so glad it paid off. There’s nothing worse than planning a market or pop-up that no one comes to. That’s never happened at one I’ve planned, but I’ve certainly participated in ones where that’s been the case, and it feels pretty terrible for the organizers.

The incredible volunteers from the Leading Ladies! They are a high school service organization for girls, and we wouldn’t have been able to do this without them.

The Merrill House worked out great. If anything, it was a little small, and we’ll have to look at that for next year, but they were incredible to work with, and I enjoyed the team there so much. Everyone loved The Rollin’ Kitchen, their food truck.

Stephanie is a part of the Willow Crowns team. She doesn’t live in Texas, and when she told me she was coming in town for the market, it was my first moment of panic. Like, “omg people are getting on airplanes for this, it better be good!”

I’m planning a new series, “How to Start a Market or Pop-Up Shop 101,” which will detail everything from where to begin to vendor relations. It will be full of info you absolutely need to know in order to run a successful pop-up shop, so stay tuned for that.

Until then, if you’re interested in being a vendor or sponsor at next year’s Mamas + Makers Market, make sure you’ve given us your email address here: http://blog.cuteheads.com/event-page/

Thank you so much for coming up and/or supporting Mamas + Makers Market! Happy Friday. xo

  1. Wow! You should definitely be proud of yourself for organizing a big event like that–awesome that there was such a great turnout for all the shops, too!

  2. Everything looks just SO adorable! I am so sad I wasn’t able to make it at the last minute! Glad it was such a success!! <3
