It has been QUITE a week. Living in Houston, we’ve been pounded by day after day of rain and massive flooding, and quite frankly, I’m a little out of sorts. I’m almost grateful for my middle of the night feedings with Tova because it gives me a little extra time to do my work! My daughter’s child’s day out was cancelled due to the weather, and we’ve been cooped up in the house, and if there’s one thing two year old’s love, it’s being cooped up in the house. Somehow, in spite of all that, this was a really busy week, and I have a lot of exciting things to share!
5 Friday Faves
1. My first pop-up shop of the season is here! Please join me at Joyce Horn Antiques for a Mother’s Day fete, featuring cuteheads, Pintuck Clothing, Macaron by Patisse and more. I always love in-person events because it gives me a chance to meet new people and let people discover cuteheads who wouldn’t normally do so. It’s going to be a lot of fun, and I’m looking forward to doing a little shopping myself.
2. I feel a little weird and self-serving sharing this one, so bear with me… but this week I was named one of the Top 25 Maker Moms on Instagram! I know that seems like a silly accomplishment, but a few years ago, I remember thinking, “I’ll NEVER grow my brand on social media.” So much hard work and dedication has gone into marketing efforts, including learning how to use a DSLR and take my own pictures, and I feel like it’s finally starting to pay off. We all should celebrate our little victories along the way.
3. I just designed the most gorgeous custom unicorn dresses for Erin and Ian Ziering’s two girls’ birthday party this weekend. The party is rainbow unicorn-themed, so naturally we needed rainbow unicorn dresses. I found the perfect fabric, added pom poms… and voila! I was so in love with these little numbers, I almost kept them for myself, but it wouldn’t be fair. Maybe I’ll make Naomi and Tova their own rainbow unicorn dresses just because.
4. I recently discovered Hey Bernadette, a local calligrapher and graphic designer, who designs the most gorgeous hand-lettering, prints and more. I’m working with her on a fun, sort-of secret project happening this Summer with Beth from Manor, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it. We’re in the final stages of negotiations, so once the paperwork is signed, we can share more.
5. This summer, Pop Shop America is teaching Craft Camps & Technology Camps together with TXRX Labs, a makerspace here in Houston. Founder Brittany Bly has been teaching kids workshops for many years and loves working with young makers. This year is the first time they’re having week-long programs at the end of June and early July for kids. I can promise you, if my kids were a little older, they’d be attending. I love the idea of cultivating creativity among young makers and encouraging them to design whatever is in their hearts to design. Kids know no boundaries, and I can only imagine what they’re going to come up with under the guidance of Brittany and her co-teachers!
Have a great weekend, and if you live in Houston, stay dry!
Esther, that is NOT a silly accomplishment!! Don’t diminish your success. I am not surprised by this accomplishment but am also extremely proud of you. I truly have never seen such adorable, unique clothes.
