Sugar & Spice

Today feels like Monday, doesn’t it? Welcome back from the long weekend, hope yours was fun! I’m so excited to share this darling shoot with you, featuring the cutest little model ever wearing cuteheads ‘Dakota’ Flutter Sleeve Dress. This cotton number is so soft and comfortable, and can be dressed up or down. I love it paired with Ryan & Wren‘s clip & sparkly Toms here. We chose this spot to shoot because the colors of the wall were a great contrast to the monochrome colors of the outfit.

I’m going to let you in on a little secret, which I’m sure is going to REALLY surprise you: shooting with kids is HARD. Like, really hard. Normally, they’re all over the place, demanding snacks, crying… It’s not easy. But Taylor made is as easy as pie. She really was so fun to work with that I’m sure we’ll be shooting with her again very soon. She barely frowned the entire time, and when she did, we got this:

Cute, right?

Another interesting fact about this shoot is that for the first time, I shot it. I usually hire a pro to handle important shoots, but I’ve been working hard on my photography skills, learning the in’s and out’s of shooting in manual, and after a lot of practice, I felt I should probably try to do an actual shoot myself. It’s not perfect, but I’m proud that I did something I was afraid to do and it wasn’t a total disaster.

Have you pushed yourself lately to do something you were scared to do? Would love to hear what you’re challenging yourself with these days. x

  1. Soooo cute! I love her frown face. You did great, children are tough to photograph as a general rule, especially little one’s!

  2. Dear goodness, I can’t even decide what is cuter – the baby, the dress, or the background! 😀 You did an amazing job with these pictures, so you should be proud! Also, just realized we’re in the same city!!!

  3. I’m impressed with the photography. I love the brightness and like you said the wall is the perfect contrast. I’ve been trying to shoot more in manual which works well for crafts and recipes, but I still have such a hard time with people.

  4. Her eyes are UNREAL!!! And I love the backdrop of graffiti! I did a similar shoot with my older two for a Carter’s campaign a few weeks ago in an alley of graffiti! SO FUN! xox

  5. Can we just talk about how absolutely precious she is?! My goodness, those eyes! 🙂 She is seriously adorable, and I love her outfit! Great pictures!

  6. These are awesome. We are going to take our daughters first birthday pics ourselves. Money is tight. Im so excited. We have a really nice photography camera. Wish me luck!
