The Must-Have Workout Gear to Get in Shape for 2016

The Must-Have Workout Clothes to Get in Shape for 2016 | The Cuteness blog.cuteheads.com

I’m not good at everything, but I’ll tell you one thing I’ve mastered: wearing workout clothes like I’m going to work out, then not actually working out. Even while pregnant, I’ve been managing to catch a spin class or two every week, but lately, my pants are too tight, I’m too out of breath, and I’m just too tired to make it happen. For as long as I can remember, working out has been my therapy. It’s my favorite alone time, and it really is the only time in my day when I’m not thinking about my to-do list. I know that anytime I’m stressed out about something, a good cardio session will help my mind unwind and give me clarity.

That’s why I’m already thinking about my post-partum workout routine. The first time around, it took me quite awhile to get back into working out. Sure, I went to the gym, but I don’t think I was really pushing myself or setting good goals. I know getting back into shape after baby isn’t the top priority, but is *A* priority for me.

On top of that, workout clothes are SO CUTE now, aren’t they? I recently got rid of all my ugly, ill-fitting workout clothes, because I know I’ll never wear them again. Feeling cute at the gym, even when you’re sweating, does make it at least slightly more enjoyable.

So I sat down to think about my must-haves for 2016, pieces that will up my athleisure game in the new year. Here’s what I’ve chosen:

Must-Have Workout Clothes for 2016

1. S’well Water Bottle in Champagne // I love the sleek design of this, and how it fits nicely on the handle of a spin bike or in your bag. I know people are obsessed with Yeti, but the thing is so giant, I can barely hold it. And it’s not a great option for a spin or barre class. The S’well is. Side note: the color of the bottle is champagne, there’s no actual champagne in there. Bummer.

2. Athleta Pom Pom Beanie // This chic beanie is both cute and functional; keep your head warm after an intense workout, and hide your gross, sweaty hair, in case you’re meeting a friend for coffee afterwards.

3. Adidas by Stella McCartney Cropped Workout Pants // Every girl needs a pair of cute, comfy, cropped workout pants that go with every top. Why shouldn’t yours be Stella McCartney?

4. Nike ‘Dunk’ Sky Hi Wedge // I wear these almost every day. With jeans, with workout clothes, whatever. They’re the perfect shoe to dress up your athleisure, if you’re headed out to run errands or meet someone after your gym session, AND they’re super comfortable. They were my favorite Fall/Winter purchase.

5. Humble Chic Criss Cross Sports Bra // I just love the look of this. A supportive, comfortable sports bra is a must-have for a good workout, and this one would be killer layered under a racerback top.

6. Sol Earbuds // For when you don’t want to talk to anyone at the gym. Which is pretty much all the time.

7. Bench Puffer Vest // A good puffer vest is a workout necessity. It’s a great layering piece for pre and post-workout, and easily transitions into everyday wear.

8. Joe Fresh Sweater // Technically, this is an athliesure piece, but I’d wear it with jeans too. So cute, right?

9. Nike Dri-Fit Workout Jacket // Gray’s a good choice, it goes with everything, and again, you can layer this jacket with your puffer vest and you’re out the door.

10. Hard Tail Cropped Tie Dye Pants // Oh, how I love these. Hard Tail makes awesome yoga and workout pants, thought I sort of think they’re too cute to work out in. These are the perfect “I look like I’m going to work out, but I’m really not” pants.

11. Nike Air Max 90s // Nike Air Max is a style staple, and they come in every color under the sun (you can customize a pair at Nike.com!). I personally stick with black because it goes with everything.

There you have it. What are your workout wardrobe must-have’s? Did I miss anything?

  1. LOVE your picks! I was JUST writing down some goals for 2016 and getting back into shape after baby is on my top 5 of things to do because I know I’ll look AND feel so much better. BUT, in the mean time, I am SO guilty of sporting workout gear just because it’s so comfortable. LOVE those Nike wedges! I have a few pairs and they are SO comfortable!

  2. I need that water bottle. I asked for a Yeti for Christmas for everyday use, but you make a good point that it would make a horrible gym bottle.

  3. Love these pieces! Since joining the gym, I’ve been “gymtimidated” by all the women – even the seniors! – who dress so nicely to work out, while I’m bumming it in sweats and tees. I’ve been thinking about purchasing a few items to work out in, but haven’t known where to start. These are great options! Really, really want that sweater – that is just my style and perfect for going to and coming from yoga class.

  4. I NEED some new workout clothes to motivate me to get in shape after this baby! I was the same way with MG – all I wanted for a push present!

  5. This is my 2016 goal: wearing workout clothes like I’m going to work. It’s about that time to overhaul my wardrobe again and active wear is a must. Not because I hit the gym, but because I’m an active mom of 7 and I’m always on the go!

  6. I agree, workout clothes have become super attractive today. Also, I love the sports bra you chose, I actually ordered a similar one today 🙂 Happy New Year!

  7. Don’t save your Hard Tail cause it’s too cute to wear. It lasts forever and gets softer and softer after every wash. Plus double them up for both fitness and fashion.
    Happy Hard Tail!
