Happy M O N D A Y! I hope your weekend is starting off on the right foot. Our weekend was INSANE. Like, one of the busiest in recent memory, and I’m actually excited to see Monday so things can slow down a little bit. Does that even make sense? I’m extra excited, because we finally got back the final edited pictures from Tova’s newborn shoot, and man, they are incredible. I spent hours looking for cute newborn picture ideas, and didn’t realize I had nothing to worry about. My friend Melissa Fitzgerald is definitely known for taking incredible family portraits, but these are on another level. She went far above and beyond my expectations, and I’m so glad we got to work together again. Melissa has such a unique style and her point of view is so cool; she has such an eye for photography and a natural gift.
For this shoot, all we wanted was to feel comfortable and casual. I knew I wanted us to be at home, because I didn’t want to work to hard for any shot, and I didn’t want it to feel contrived. I don’t know if we’re baby-in-a-field people, so at home in our comfortable clothes was the way to go for us. Some of the rooms in our house, namely Tova’s room and our bedroom, have amazing natural light, so we focused the shoot in those two rooms. I admit fully that our house was a total mess, and somehow Melissa moved things around to make it look neat and tidy. If you’ve ever had a newborn and a toddler in your house at once, your house is basically never neat and tidy, and you just have to be ok with that and hide the messes when company comes over. Basically, my top newborn picture ideas were just for all of us to be together, and for the images to be bright and airy. Check and check.
I love the sweet pictures of our Tova, our peanut baby, our Sweet T. But Naomi was kind of the star of the show that day. There are incredible pictures of her loving her baby sister, giving her kisses, holding her hand. It melted my heart, and many of my favorite pictures we got in the first 5 minutes. We all kind of looked at each other and laughed and said, “I guess we’re done!” You know how these family shoots are. Sometimes they’re a total disaster and you feel like you got zero shots. This was not that shoot. Everyone was happy and cooperative (even the dog!). Tova refused to fall asleep, of course, so we have no sleepy newborn shots, only shots of her wide awake and staring at everything, which I guess is fitting, since this child is proving she’d much rather be awake, keeping you company.
I loved this day, and will cherish it and the pictures we got forever. Hope you like them too!
