Weekend Coffee Share: To School We Go

This past week, we went to the orientation for my daughter’s school open house. I don’t really want to call it BACK to school, because she’s never actually been before. So it’s just “to school.” The last few weeks, we’ve been talking a lot about school with her in really excited, enthusiastic voices to get her excited and enthused about it. She’s been toting her cute unicorn lunchbox around for weeks. I have no idea if it’s working. I guess we’ll see come 8/24.

I’ve got everything she needs: backpack, lunchbox, labels, clothes, lunch items, and on and on, and I know there will be an adjustment period, but will she be ready? Will I be ready? It’s really a silly questions, because of course we’re ready. She’s going to school with lots of her little friends, which gives me peace of mind, and her teachers seem amazing. It’s going to give me more time to work and get things done. But there’s something sad about the fact that she’ll never not be in school again until she’s a grown up and out in the real world. Isn’t that strange to think about? Just yesterday, she was 6 pounds, 10 ounces and barely making a peep. Now she’s a little person, fully formed, with ideas and decisions of her own.

This is going to be an interesting Fall for us both. Now off to drink my coffee and enjoy these last few days of calm…

  1. My own little girl starts school in September, I think we’re nearly ready, although I still have to name everything and buy shoes for her and her big brother. Here starts 14 years of formal education. A terrifying thought.

  2. Thanks for joining the coffee link-up this week!

My son starts 1st grade tomorrow, and I’m not ready for that at all. We’ve already had the official first day of pre-k and first day of real school, but somehow this year still feels different. I’m beginning to wonder if that’ll always be so. 🙂

  3. Hi Esther – she is absolutely adorable! Going to school is a big change for everyone but with all the love I see you have for her, I’m sure she will fine and comfortable. Good luck to that little lovely!
